Fortnightly update 6: 17.02.2020 to 01.03.2020
In this fortnightly blog post series, I share with you my progress as a writer. I’ll throw each post up on both Facebook and LinkedIn on Sundays or Mondays, though if anything dinosaur-huge happens, I may still make separate posts about it; these fortnightly posts are more about my fortnight-to-fortnight triumphs.
I write scripts for the popular YouTube channel The Front.
We uploaded two videos this fortnight. The first was about how World War II tempered the Poles into some of the strongest humans on the planet.
The second was about Robert McNamara’s “Project 100,000” or “McNamara’s Morons. This one is travelling exceptionally well.
The first week’s posts were about indigenous Australians in the Second World War.
The second week’s posts were about ghosts and curses (hence the featured image). Spooky!
I write scripts for Geetsly’s, the popular Star Wars YouTube channel. We’ve got quite a few banked up, so one of mine has yet to be uploaded. Stay tuned for that!
The first was written by Dilini, a fiction_shots contributor.
Water swirled around our ankles. My feet sunk slowly into waterlogged sand. Her squeals of delight over small lapping waves warmed my heart. She let go of my hand. Fearless, she duck-footed her way along the shore. I suppressed the nag and let her go.
The second was written by me, and it was about the “million-dollar wound.” [Twitter #vss365 word #spirits]
I’d never seen a man with bone sticking out his skin in such high spirits.
He looked at me, read my thoughts. “I’m going home, mate. Home.”
He looked at nothing after that, and I spent a long minute deciding if I should put a bullet in my left asscheek or right.
I let my nerdiness take hold this fortnight, making my own simple tabletop roleplaying game system which I called “6ixes” (as it uses only the humble six-sided die), and I ended up testing it out in a Discord play-by-post RPG server and “Skyrim-esque” setting of my own, recruiting players from Reddit and my existing pool of friends. It was fun while it lasted, but maintaining the server and setting turned out to be a whole lot extra work, which I just don’t need right now. I want to playtext 6ixes in a far more restricted setting, so then I don’t have to spend hours and hours worldbuilding.
If that made no sense to you, it might be time to dive skull-first into the world of tabletop roleplaying games, starting with something like D&D first. The neckbeard will grow shortly thereafter.
This fortnight was a f***ing grind, and it was totally my fault. Discipline is everything, and I let the dirty nerd inside of me take the reigns, ceding it to him. I finished everything I needed to, yeah, but it cost me more than a few grey hairs.
Thanks for reading!
P.S. I drove along the Great Ocean Road too. It was nice.
