Fortnightly update 31: 01.02.2021 to 14.02.2021
In this blog series, I share my fortnight-to-fortnight triumphs (and failures) as a writer. Despite all the ups and downs, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I know I was a few days late with this post, but I was off getting some fresh air.
Flash fiction and short stories
I’m currently submitting flash fiction and short stories to online magazines and such for publication. I worked HARD at this over this fortnight, probably harder than I have before. At point point, I had eight stories submitted, by far the most lines I’ve ever had in the water at once. I also wrote a few thousand words of a story before scrapping it and starting another, which is turning out to be one of my favourites to write to date, and will probably be on the longer side for me, meaning about 10 to 12k words. While writing it might not be very strategically viable, I’m having too much fun and don’t plan on stopping. More on that soon, hopefully!
I write scripts for Frontier Media, a media production company specialising in YouTube. Our two largest channels are The Front and Geetsly’s, and while I’ve written for Geetsly’s in the past, I mostly write for The Front and our new, smaller channel The Braved. Just two videos for which I wrote the scripts were published this fortnight.
I write 280-character stories using various writing prompt hashtags on Twitter. This fortnight, I wrote just one piece. My motivation for Twitter just isn’t there anymore. I think it’s because I’m writing so much elsewhere. We’ll see.
There’s no clock here
and novel pains
to tell the time
My fiction writing took up my entire fortnight, if I’m being honest, but I had the motivation, and I rolled with it. Going forward, I think I’m gonna need to establish a bit stricter of a schedule, using my fiction as a reward for completing my other work.
