Fortnightly update 34: 15.03.2021 to 28.03.2021
In this blog series, I share my fortnight-to-fortnight triumphs (and failures) as a writer. Despite all the ups and downs, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Flash fiction and short stories
I’m currently submitting flash fiction and short stories to online magazines and such for publication. This fortnight, I submitted that story I was complaining about last fortnight, and it was just the little win I needed. Often, the stories I struggle to write end up being stronger stories. Fingers crossed it gets accepted. I think I have at least a fair shot! Going forward, I’ve got one more “long” story to edit and submit, but then I’m going to aim to go for submissions under 1,000 words, at least until I have a few more of such stories under my belt. I’m considering listing all of my submissions and rejections/acceptances here too, so then whoever reads this can see which publications I’m going for and stuff. I’ll give it some more thought!
I write scripts for Frontier Media, a media production company specialising in YouTube. Our two largest channels are The Front and Geetsly’s, and while I’ve written for Geetsly’s in the past, I mostly write for The Front and our new, smaller channel The Braved. Three videos for which I wrote the scripts were published this fortnight.
I write 280-character stories and poems using various writing prompt hashtags on Twitter. This fortnight, I was naughty and only wrote one piece. I will do better this coming fortnight, I promise.
I wore my pain as armour
And nothing could reach inside
Until you thrust your rapier
Between the plates
And curved your love
Into my heart
This fortnight was all about getting that aforementioned story submitted. Everything else got sort of pushed aside, though I have been critiquing the work of several other writers a fair bit lately, and intend to do more of that going forward.
Thanks for reading ❤
